Advisory Council

Activities of the Advisory Council (alcohol and drug abuse in South Dakota) include the following:

• Advise statewide needs;
• Coordinate and plan activities between state and local government agencies and private providers;
• Advise on the studies for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of drug and alcohol abuses; and
• Advise all functions delegated to the division.

Term of Appointment: Two years

Meetings: Quarterly

Composition: 15 members appointed by the Governor

1. Attorney General of the State of South Dakota or designee;
   
2. Secretary of the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs or designee;
3. Secretary of the Department of Social Services or designee;
4. Secretary of the Department of Health or designee;
5. Pharmacist;
6. Director of Indian Affairs or designee;
7. Qualified mental health professional;
8. Four members at large interested in alcohol abuse and alcoholism, two of whom are recovering alcoholics;
9. Four members at large interested in drug abuse, two of whom are recovering drug abusers.
