Sales Tax on Food Refund Program

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I receive?

A national food plan is used to determine the monthly cost of food a family needs to purchase for a healthy, nutritious diet.  Amounts vary based on household size. Benefits are paid once a year.

The sales tax amount on any Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) benefit you have received in the last 11 months is deducted from the monthly amount before the sales tax refund payment is calculated.

How will I receive my refund?

You will receive your sales tax on food refund once a year. After your application has been approved, a check will be mailed to you within 10 days of the approval date.  The benefits should be used to purchase food.

How do I continue my benefits?

Applications are accepted in October and November of each year. Each year you must complete an application form to reapply for the yearly refund. If you are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits when your application is received, you will not qualify for a sales tax on food refund payment.

Once you have completed your application in October or November, mail it to:
