The Division of Adult Services and Aging (ASA) provides home and community service options to individuals 60 years of age and older and 18 years of age and older with physical disabilities, regardless of income.
The focus of this division is to enable these South Dakotans to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives while maintaining close family and community ties.
ASA promotes in-home and community-based services to prevent or delay premature or inappropriate institutionalization. In-home services are available to those who need assistance with routine household tasks. Recipients of these services may be recovering from an illness or have physical limitations.
Specialists are available statewide to respond to inquiries or requests for long term services and support resources, either from the individual or on behalf of older adults or adults with physical disabilities.
In preparation for the next version of the State Plan on Aging, the Department of Social Services’ Division of Adult Services and Aging is seeking comments to the current State Plan on Aging which ends September 30, 2013.
