Older Americans Act
Title IV AoA Research, Demonstration,
Training & Center Programs
The Discretionary Funds Program, authorized by Title IV of the Act, constitutes the major research, demonstration, training and development effort of the Administration on Aging, led by the Assistant Secretary for Aging. The Title IV mandate is aimed, generally, at building knowledge, developing innovative model programs and training personnel for service in the field of aging and matching these resources to the changing needs of older persons and their families in the coming decades. In particular, AoA's research, demonstrations, training and other discretionary projects are focused on:
- Advancing our knowledge and understanding of current program and policy issues, such as community and in-home long-term care service systems and programs, significant to the well-being of the older population.
- Improving the effectiveness of Older Americans Act programs by testing new models, systems and approaches for providing and delivering better services to older persons.
- Providing training, technical assistance and information to increase our ability to serve older Americans with skill, care and compassion.
