First Lady Linda Daugaard to Kick Off Foster Parent Recruitment Campaign

PIERRE, S.D. –South Dakota’s First Lady will kick off her new initiative on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Sioux Falls Downtown Rotary meeting. Linda Daugaard’s FosterOne campaign aims to recruit more foster families across the state of South Dakota.

The First Lady, along with the South Dakota Department of Social Services, encourages South Dakotans to commit to know more about becoming a foster family.

“All children need meaningful connections to caring adults who can provide support in their lives,” the First Lady said. “Dedicated foster families provide the support children need while their families work through difficult situations.”

Communities across the state are in need of more foster families to meet the needs of children and youth of all ages, with a greater need for families who will support and care for teenagers, sibling groups, and medically fragile children. There is also a need for Native American families who can care for children who are Native American.

Foster parents provide opportunities for youth to stay connected with their family, friends, culture, school and community. Children and youth in foster care need licensed foster families to provide them with support, stability and a safe environment until they can return home or a more permanent option is available.

“All these children need is someone to open their heart and their home to them,” said the First Lady. “Will you be the one?”

The First Lady will be visiting communities across the state this summer and fall, asking South Dakotans to commit to know more about becoming foster families. For more information about becoming a foster parent, and to find out more about the First Lady’s efforts visit:
