September is Mental Health and Substance Use Recovery Month

PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed September as Recovery Month in South Dakota, calling upon all South Dakotans to recognize individuals in recovery and their families, and saluting the health care providers who have helped these individuals in their pursuit of recovery.

“It is critical that people experiencing mental and/or substance use disorders receive the support they need,” said Tiffany Wolfgang, division director for Behavioral Health. “Prevention works and recovery is possible with access to behavioral health services and supports.”

This past year in South Dakota, 25,054 individuals received assistance through publicly funded behavioral health providers for mental health and/or addictions services.  If an individual is interested in seeking recovery from alcoholism, drug or gambling addiction, or is seeking mental health services, there are 64 accredited providers across South Dakota with programs and services available. A list of providers can be found at
http://dss.sd.gov/behavioralhealth/agencycounty.aspx, or by calling the Division of Behavioral Health at 605-773-3123.
