Baby Care Program

• Have you recently found out that you are pregnant?
• Are you wondering how you are going to get and pay for
  the medical care you need?

If you answered "yes" to either of the above questions, the Baby Care Medical Assistance Program may be for you and your unborn baby.

Even before you start to look or feel pregnant, your baby needs love and care. You need care, too. The Baby Care Medical Assistance Program can help provide the care that both you and your baby need.

What services does the Baby Care Program provide?

The Baby Care Program can help provide a healthy beginning for your unborn child. In partnership with the SD Department of Health, the program provides services such as:

• medical assistance programs to pay for medical care for you and your children
  
• pregnancy assessment (asking questions about your health)
  
• case management (helping you get the services you need)
  
• prenatal education (teaching you about your pregnancy and how to take care of you and your baby)
  
• hospital pre-registration for your baby's delivery
  
• referral to other programs
  

Who qualifies for the program?

Even if you have never been eligible for medical assistance, you may find you qualify for Baby Care Services. Eligibility depends on your income - learn more about Medical Eligibility.

To apply for Medical Assistance, contact the DSS Office nearest you, or call toll free at 1-800-305-3064.

If you are pregnant, you may apply for Baby Care Services by contacting your local Community Health Nurse (CHN). To find the office closest to you, call 1-800-738-2301.
