Governor's Commission on Child Support to hold public hearings on proposed changes

The Governor’s Commission on Child Support will conduct a public hearing to gather input on potential changes to South Dakota’s child support guidelines and related statutes on August 11, 2008. Individuals may appear to provide public testimony in either Pierre or Aberdeen, S.D., from 6-8 p.m. 

The commission is conducting its required four-year review of South Dakota’s child support guidelines and is comprised of representatives of custodial and non-custodial parents, family law attorneys, the judiciary, the legislature, and the Department of Social Services. The commission may recommend changes that reflect adjustments in the costs of raising children, and may address other issues with related statutes. The commission will submit its report and recommendations to the Governor by Dec. 31, 2008, to be considered during the 2009 legislative session.

In the Pierre area, members of the public can attend the hearing at the Dakota Digital Network (DDN) Studio A & B, located in the lower level of the State Capitol Building at 500 E. Capitol Avenue. In the Aberdeen area, the public is invited to take part in the hearing at the DDN Studio at Northern State University, in Room 117 of the Library Building.

Public hearings will also be held in Sioux Falls on Sept. 8, 2008, and in Rapid City on Sept. 22, 2008. Details on the locations will be published and announced as they become available.

Discussions during the public hearings will be limited to potential changes to the child support guidelines and statutes. The hearings are not intended for specific comments or complaints involving individual child support cases. Written comments or suggestions may also be submitted for consideration by the full commission by mailing them to the Department of Social Services, Attn: Child Support Commission, 700 Governors Drive, Pierre, S.D. 57501-2291.

 

South Dakota Medical Assistance Program Inpatient Hospital Payment Methodology for Disproportionate Share Hospitals

Notice is hereby given that effective May 1, 2008, the South Dakota Department of Social Services intends to make a change to the South Dakota Medicaid State Plan for the inpatient hospital payment methodology for disproportionate share hospitals.

The proposed change updates Page 7 of Attachment 4.19-A, Payment Methodology for Disproportionate Share Hospitals, in regards to the payment schedule for qualifying hospitals.  This State Plan Amendment updates the payment amounts so that the total expended remains within the budgeted amount. The Federal fiscal impact associated with this amendment is $389,298 for Federal Fiscal Year 2008 and $390,271 for Federal Fiscal Year 2009.

Copies of the South Dakota Medicaid State Plan regarding the amendment language will be available at the Department of Social Services, Division of Medical Services.
