South Dakota Medical Assistance provides a large range of, but not all, prescription drugs.  SDMA does not cover over the counter drugs except for non-sedating antihistamines and pediculicides (e.g. permethrin).

SDMA recipients aged 21 and older are required to pay a portion of the costs of their medical care. The cost share is $3.30 for each covered brand-name prescription or refill and $1.00 for each covered generic prescription or refill.  Eligibility groups federally exempt from copay requirements are not subject to copay.
