Dental Services

South Dakota Medical Assistance covers a range of  preventive and restorative dental services for adults and children.   Some limits may apply to specific services and some require prior authorization (e.g., all dentures and partial dentures require prior authorization). Orthodontia is a covered service but only in limited, medically-necessary circumstances and only for those  recipients younger than 21 when treatment begins, and only with prior approval.

Dental providers who want to participate in SDMA must enroll enroll with the program. However, claims administration, prior authorization and other dental administrative functions are facilitated by Delta Dental of South Dakota, 1-800-627-3961.
