South Dakota Medicaid covers non-emergency transportation to or from medically necessary appointments when the services are covered by Medicaid and are provided by an enrolled Medicaid provider. Covered transportation is from your home or school to a medical provider, between medical providers or from a medical provider to your home or school. A home does not include a hospital, jail/prison, detention center, campus setting, nursing facility or an intermediate care facility for the intellectually or developmentally disabled. Transportation is covered only to the closest facility or medical provider capable of providing the necessary services, unless you have a written referral or a written authorization from a medical provider in your medical community.
South Dakota Medicaid Community Transportation providers can be found below. Always ask the provider you are calling if the trip appears to be covered by Medicaid and provide your Medicaid ID number.
