Continuing Education is due in even-numbered years during the practitioner’s renewal period. A practitioner renewing their CAC, LAC or CPS status must submit at least 40* contact hours of approved continuing education. ARSD: 20:80:08:07
*The number of continuing education hours will be prorated based on the initial date of certification or licensure. Licenses/certificates issued prior to January 1, 2022 will require 40 hours of continuing education for renewal in 2024. For license/certificates issued after January 1, 2022, please follow the chart below to determine the hours of continuing education required for renewal in 2024.

Approval of Continuing Education:
A counseling related training activity offered by any of the pre-approved sponsors is approved to provide continuing education that meets the requirements of 20:80:08:04. No further approval is needed providing the sponsor’s name appears on the certificate of attendance.
The Board may approve other qualified continuing education programs upon request. For approval of continuing education provided by a sponsor not listed on the pre-approved sponsor list, please submit a Request for Approval of Continuing Professional Training.
Organization sponsors or presenters not listed on the pre-approved sponsor list can request approval by completing and submitting the Educational Provider Status Agreement and Request for Approval of Continuing Professional Training and the $25 service provider fee. The service provider fee is not required for free training activities.
