Post Office

HSC has a post office where you may mail items and purchase stamps. Mail sent to individuals at HSC will be sent to the individual’s treatment unit. HSC will provide you with two stamps per week, writing paper, pens/pencil, and envelopes. Mail may be sent from the units.

Business Office

Staff in the business office coordinate billing of the party responsible for the cost of your treatment. They also maintain a Patient Benefit Fund, which receives private donations for the enjoyment and benefit of the patients admitted to HSC. Expenditures are normally limited to patient use and/or patient related activities. The patient bank operations are also overseen by the business office.

Patient Bank

You are encouraged to limit the amount of cash you carry. HSC has a bank in which you may deposit and withdraw your money. HSC pays interest on your patient account balance. The bank has regular office hours from 9:00 AM – noon, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. You may purchase allowable items from your patient account by working with your social worker. Unspent funds are returned to you upon discharge.

Courtyard

If you need some fresh air, we have a large courtyard with a walking path and picnic shelter to enjoy the outdoors on nice days. There is a 9 series disc golf course located outside in the courtyard as well. On nice days, many groups and activities are offered in this space.

Multipurpose Room

The Multipurpose Room is located in Staff Development. This room is used for spiritual/religious services for patients. All spiritual/religious services are provided by volunteers from the community and coordinated through the hospitals Support Services Program. This area is also used for larger hospital events and staff trainings.

Library

The HSC patient library contains over 12,000 items for the patients to use. The following items are available: large print books, fiction and non-fiction books, entertainment and educational DVDs, current newspapers and magazines, games, music listening stations for cassettes, CDs, and record albums.

The HSC Medical library houses medical books, journals, and HSC historical archival items.

Activities Center

If you’re looking to build new skills and socialize, our Activities Center is equipped with plenty of fun to keep you entertained and to learn all about healthy leisure skills with our Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. The Activities Center includes a small lounge where you can play boardgames and participate in a number of groups including cooking groups and art groups. Our large lounge includes 3 billiards tables, foosball, ping-pong, darts, TV, and an Xbox. Our weight room is equipped with yoga balls, ellipticals, stationary bikes, dumbbells and more to allow you to get a good exercise in during your stay at HSC. The Activities Center also has a full-size gymnasium and swimming pool! Events and activities are planned throughout each month to get involved with if you wish, some including movies, picnics, bingo and more!
