When approaching each pod (two separate units) in the hospital, patients will see an entry way that splits off into two directions (units).

Day hall/dining area

All meals are served on the unit in a spacious environment with natural light

Bedroom

HSC has single and double bedrooms that are spacious. Each have a window for natural light.

Sensory Room

Adolescent patients have an opportunity to utilize the sensory room when needing a break from the activities or just a quiet place to spend time utilizing a variety of sensory objects.

Alternative School

The South Dakota Human Services Center has an Alternative School that is an Approved Educational Service Provider through the South Dakota Department of Education. Academic services are provided for adolescent patients (high school and middle school), and adult patients who are still attending high school. All teachers are state certified and the school works closely with a student’s resident school district to assist them with keeping on track with their high school graduation requirements.
